French drains and dry creek beds

Step by step

  1. 1

    Find where water collects and where it can drain to legally.

  2. 2

    Dig a sloped trench, line it with filter fabric and lay perforated pipe.

  3. 3

    Backfill with #57 stone, wrap the fabric over the top, then cap with river rock or soil.

Watch for

  • Don’t send water onto a neighbor’s lot.
  • Work near canals or seawalls may need a permit.
